The Rotary Club of Venice-Marina has awarded $1,200 scholarships to two Venice students who graduated from high school earlier this year.

At the club’s meeting July 9th, a check was presented to Animo Venice Charter High School graduate Cece Cuza Howard by club president Armando Diaz. Cuza Howard, the 2008 Boys & Girls Club of Venice youth of the year, will attend Tulane University in New Orleans this fall.

Eryca Diaz, who recently graduated from Venice High School, was presented with the Tony Steinhart Scholarship by the club on July 16th, and says she will use her $1,200 to help cover costs of attending West Los Angeles College, where she plans to major in criminal justice.

A rotary club spokesman said Diaz was selected because of her outstanding work with the Los Angeles Police Department Police Explorers program. The scholarship is named in memory of Steinhart, a popular police detective and a longtime member of the rotary club.

Each year the club awards scholarships to local high school students, complementing its service projects that include the Venice High School Awards of Excellence, the Crafts Awards Day and Career Day.

This past year the club donated over $20,000 to schools in the Venice community from the Adiba Shaby Memorial Scholarships.
