In high school boys basketball games:

The Westchester High School Comets traveled to Lou-isiana and received their second defeat of the season at the hands of host Reserve Christian High School in a 66-60 loss Friday, December 30th.

The Comets (12-2), who are the fourth-ranked team in the Southland according to the Los Angeles Times, lost their first game of the season 46-33 to number-one ranked Artesia High School of Lakewood December 21st.

Westchester will next face visiting Dominguez High School at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 7th.

It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, after the Comets defeated Dominguez Saturday, December 10th, to win the Westchester Tip-Off Classic.

The Venice High School Gondoliers lost 65-57 to San Marcos High of Santa Barbara in the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic tournament Friday, December 30th.

The Gondoliers (5-5) out-scored San Marcos 20-9 in the third quarter after trailing 38-25 at halftime, but San Marcos regained control in the fourth quarter and held off the Venice comeback effort.

Venice will begin Western League play on the road against defending league champion Westchester at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 11th.

St. Bernard High School was defeated 60-56 by host Clover-dale High School Friday, December 30th.

The Vikings (8-6) led 28-27 at halftime and maintained the lead by a one-point margin after three quarters, but was unable to hold on to it in the final quarter.

St. Bernard will face St. Margaret’s High of San Juan Capistrano at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 7th.

Santa Monica High School defeated Mira Costa High 55-48 in the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic tournament Thursday, December 29th.

Terrance Boozer and Ari Feldman each scored 11 points in the victory for Santa Monica (9-5).

The Vikings currently lead the Ocean League standings and will open league play on the road against Morningside High at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 11th.

In high school girls basketball games:

The Santa Monica High School Vikings dominated Corona del Mar High School 82-41 to win the Garden Grove Tournament Championship Thursday, December 29th.

The Vikings (11-1) reached the tournament final after a 77-51 victory over California High of Whittier.

Karlia Batalla scored a game-high 17 points to help lead the Vikings to the tournament championship.

Santa Monica currently leads the Ocean League standings and will start league play at home against Morningside High at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 11th.
