In high school softball games:

The defending Western League champion Venice High School Gondoliers clinched another league title with a 9-6 victory at home over Fairfax High School Thursday, April 27th.

Venice (11-9, 9-0) trailed Fairfax 6-2 at the start of the fourth inning, but the Gondoliers took over the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning and maintained their undefeated record in league play.

Sophomore Michelle Aver, who finished three-for-five, led Venice with three RBIs (runs batted in), and junior Sandra McCaw, who finished two-for-three, drove in two more runs in the victory.

Venice overpowered Fairfax on offense by finishing with 17 hits.

The defending Ocean League champion Santa Monica High School Vikings reaffirmed their top position in the league standings with a 7-0 victory over host Culver City High School Thursday, April 27th.

With the victory, Santa Monica (15-5, 5-0) maintained its undefeated record in league play and remained in position to nail School in a Del Rey League game Thursday, April 27th.

Freshman Kianna Dotson and senior Adriana Villa each hit one RBI for St. Monica (9-9, 1-4), which is currently in fourth place in the league standings.

The Mariners will host Mary Star of the Sea High School in a league game at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, May 4th.

In high school baseball games:

The Westchester High School Comets overtook the top position in the Western League standings with a 7-5 victory at home over University High School Monday, May 1st.

The Comets (14-8, 9-2) surpassed Palisades High School to take over first place in the league with three league games remaining in the season.

Westchester will face visiting Fairfax High School in a league game at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5th.

The Venice High School Gondoliers picked up a commanding 12-2 victory at home over Hamilton High School Monday, May 1st, to remain in third place in the Western League standings.

The Gondoliers (8-13, 7-4) scored seven runs in the second inning and held a 9-0 lead until Hamilton scored two runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Max Alatorre and junior Marcaaron Takagaki led the Venice offense with three RBIs (runs batted in) each.

Senior pitcher Jesse Buteyn finished with ten strikeouts in the victory.

Venice will next face host Palisades High School in a league game at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5th.

St. Monica High School racked up 11 hits to earn a 9-6 Del Rey League victory over host Bishop Montgomery High School Friday, April 28th.

The Mariners (8-10, 4-5) scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead and held off the challenge by Bishop Montgomery with another two runs in the sixth inning.

Junior Taylor Gelbrich, who finished three-for-five, led St. Monica with two doubles and three RBIs. Freshman Brandon Tobin drove in two more runs on two hits for the Mariners.

St. Monica will play visiting Serra High School in a non-league game at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5th.

Hawthorne High School

scored a run in the eighth inning to defeat the St. Bernard High School Vikings 3-2 in a non-Del Rey League game Saturday, April 29th.

The two teams each scored two runs in the third inning and were scoreless for the remainder of the game until Hawthorne picked up the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

St. Bernard (7-13, 0-7) finished with nine hits in the game to five for Hawthorne.

The Vikings will host St. Paul High School in a league game at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 5th.
