The Santa Monica Angels won the Tournament of Champions for District 25 girls minor league softball, Saturday, June 17th.

This was a single elimination tournament hosted by North Venice Little League.

District 25 teams are from Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, North Venice, Playa Vista, Culver City, and Beverly Hills.

The Santa Monica Angels beat Playa Vista 6-0 in the quarterfinals and went on to win the semifinals, beating the West L.A. Rockhounds 12-11.

During the championship game against the Culver City Devil Rays, the Angels were led by Caitlin Cavanaugh — the season’s and tournament’s most valuable player — who pitched for five innings.

She allowed one run over the last three innings, including striking out six of the seven batters.

Cavanaugh received defensive help from Sophie Innocenti, one of the Angels’ top hitters this season. and Nicole Rosenbach.

Innocenti and Rosenbach threw out multiple hitters throughout the tournament.

Katrina Kravitz and Morgan Pantuk led the offensive production with two hits apiece.

Kravitz scored the winning run in the fourth inning on a fielder’s choice by Dani Klein, who is the Angels catcher.

Annie Dauber provided the insurance run in the sixth inning when, after beating out an infield hit in a close play at first base, she scored on a base hit by Sabrina Giannette.

Sadie Dorf showed her versatility by playing shortstop, third base, and catcher positions and providing hits, including two runs batted in.

The Angels scored a 13-10 victory over the Devil Rays and won the championship.

“We are so proud of how the girls improved throughout the season and how they came together as a team and friends to win this championship,” said coaches Mitch Dorf and Marc Dauber.

“These are memories they will be able to take with them the rest of their lives.”
