The Santa Monica High School Vikings boys basketball team will set its sights on a third-consecutive Ocean League championship in the 2004-05 season.

The Vikings may have back-to-back league titles on their resume, but other league opponents, including Inglewood High, which is ranked sixth by the Daily Breeze, hope to take the crown this year.

Coach James Hecht has three starters returning to the roster, including six-foot-six senior Jason Deutchman, senior Pete Kass, a six-foot-one guard and junior Terrance Boozer, a six-foot guard.

Other top players include senior John Cruz, a six-foot-one guard, and Robert Robinson, a six-foot-five senior.

The Vikings opened the new season with a 68-50 loss to Price High School in the Redondo Beach Pacific Shores Tournament Monday, November 29th.

The team finished in 11th place in the Redondo Beach tournament after playing three more games, including a 78-30 win over Wilson High, a 65-51 loss to Chatsworth High and a 73-69 victory over Canoga Park.

Deutchman led the Vikings in the win over Canoga Park with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Will Freedman, a six-foot-four junior, added 18 points in the game.
