More than 30 businesses along Main Street in Santa Monica will be holding holiday festivities as part of the annual Main Street Holiday Party Extravaganza Saturday, Dec. 4.

Businesses will celebrate with parties featuring holiday beverages, snacks, sweets, door prizes and more. Most of the parties will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

The traditional Main Street tree lighting festivities are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the California Heritage Museum, 2612 Main St., just south of Ocean Park Boulevard, and this year will feature the Santa Monica High School choir and Santa Claus.

Following the tree lighting, Santa will lead a candlelight walk from the museum to Edgemar Center for the Arts’ popular Shopping Cart Holiday Tree, where that tree will be lit, and The Jingle Bell Rockers will perform. The entertainment will continue as The Jingle Bell Rockers, the Samohi choir and Santa will then stroll the street caroling and performing at the parties.

The public will have a chance to win prizes by participating as judges in the Eighth Annual Main Street Holiday Decorations Contest. The judging ballot doubles as a raffle entry.

Ballots will be available at some stores, on the Main Street Web site,, and at the tree lighting ceremony. Judging ends at 9 p.m. on Dec. 4.

There will also be a sidewalk sale at participating merchants on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Main Street Holiday Extravaganza is produced by the Main Street Business Improvement Association.
