The City of Santa Monica is hosting its annual free Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Classic Car Show from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2nd at Virginia Avenue Park, 2200 Virginia Ave. in Santa Monica.

Celebrating Mexican culture, music and dance, the fiesta’s entertainment line-up includes the ten-member group Mariachi Alta California; Bomba Chante, a ten-piece salsa band; and Ballet Folklorico Mexcaltitan with 23 dancers. Award winning performance artist Maria Elena Gaitan is the mistress of ceremonies.

The family event also features children’s Mexican arts and crafts, carnival games, and food including Mama’s Hot Tamales, tacos from Frida Taqueria, a pizza slice truck, hot dogs, raspadas, and kettle corn. Over 2,000 people attended the festivities last year.

The Pico Improvement Organization is sponsoring the Classic Car Show featuring classic, vintage, muscle cars, low riders, trucks, and specialty vehicles.

Exhibitors will compete for the Mayor’s Choice Trophy, judged by Santa Monica Mayor Pro Tempore Pam O’Connor, and the Chief’s Trophy, judged by Santa Monica Police Chief Timothy Jackman and Santa Monica Fire Chief Scott Ferguson. Trophies will also be awarded for the “Best in Class.”
