The Fourth Annual Santa Monica Classic 5K and 10K race benefiting the environmental organization Heal the Bay is scheduled Sunday, May 3rd.
The race will start at the beach at 2600 Barnard Way and finish at the Santa Monica Pier. The 5K under 21 and open divisions will start at 7:30 a.m., while the 10K race will begin at 8 a.m. The under 21 race is new to the event this year.
Past races have raised $30,000 for the Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay. In addition, race organizers joined Nike and Heal the Bay in sponsoring an Earth Day beach cleanup April 25th that drew a large crowd.
“Racers will enjoy a great run through the heart of Santa Monica and the opportunity to help keep our coastal waters safe and clean,” race director Peter Abraham said. “We’re proud to partner with Heal the Bay for our beach cleanup and the Fourth Annual Santa Monica Classic.”
The winning high school boys and girls teams will receive Nike jackets and all participants can visit a post-race Expo held on the Santa Monica Pier. All race participants will receive Nike Dri-FIT running T-shirts.
The Santa Monica Classic is a member of the Los Angeles Marathon family of events.
