Sixteen Santa Monica College (SMC) students are being honored as 2007-08 Student Athletes of the Year Thursday, May 15th.
The awards will be presented to the diverse group of students — some of whom have overcome major life challenges — at the annual awards breakfast sponsored by the SMC General Advisory Board, a community support group.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. in the SMC Pavilion, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
The 16 students, their coaches and their respective sports are:
Natalie Kelley, women’s tennis (coach: Richard Goldenson);
Yessenia Munoz, spirit squad/ cheerleading (coach: Susan Corpus);
Nate Scribner, football (coach: Robert Taylor);
Vanessa Shoemaker, women’s swimming (coach: Steve Contarsy);
Donovan Chin, men’s track and field (coach: Larry Silva);
Daniel Nemirovski, men’s cross country (coach: Larry Silva);
Zedra Slayton, women’s basketball (coach: Lydia Strong);
Nushin Nataneli, women’s volleyball (coach: Kerri Eich);
Jackie Dawson, women’s soccer (coach: Aaron Benditson);
Alex Donner, men’s water polo (coach: Erik Matheson);
