The Santa Monica Fire Department has launched a new Web site designed to provide an accessible and customer-friendly resource on the department’s various services.

The new site,, includes features such as “I’ve got 7” information on preparing for earthquakes and other disasters, fire prevention tips and permitting procedures.

The new and improved resource is part of an ongoing citywide project in which all departments within the city will eventually launch newly designed Web sites, city officials said.

The Fire Department site joins the Department of Public Works, City Council, City Attorney’s Office, Office of Sustainability, City Manager’s Office, Police Department, Rent Control Board and other redesigned sites and pages that have launched since the project began. Like the other new city sites, the Fire Department site has a fresh photographic design that highlights the many facets of the department, officials note. Much of the photography featured on the site was taken by Chief Walter Shirk.

All the information presented on the site has been organized to be more accessible to the public. In addition, new features have been incorporated, providing easier access to forms and contact information, firefighter recruitment, and programs offered by the department.

More department Web sites are set to launch over the next few months.
