Santa Monica community and business leaders gathered at the Annenberg Community Beach House Feb. 28 to celebrate the more than 50 accolades that the beachside city received over the past year.
Santa Monica, with its hotels, restaurants and other attractions, has recently earned such recognition as being named one of National Geographic’s “Top 10 Beach Cities in the world.”
Other accolades include having one of Angeleno magazine’s “Top 50 Restaurants in Los Angeles,” Travel + Leisure’s “Best Hotel for Business in Los Angeles,” and the “Best Hotel Spa” according to the readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
“We recognize that such esteemed accolades don’t come easily,” said Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom. “To be distinguished as ‘the best’ by so many discerning publications and organizations is a true testament to the standard of excellence our city and our tourism community maintains.”
During the recognition ceremony, City Council members and business and community leaders recognized these achievements, and unveiled a newly branded promotional campaign that was distributed to all event attendees for use in their own marketing materials to support the accolades. In addition, they said the community has officially adopted the tagline “Santa Monica: California’s Most Celebrated Beach City” as its commemorative slogan.
“We’re very proud to celebrate these establishments and all they contribute to our local community,” says Misti Kerns, president of the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re looking forward to highlighting them throughout 2011 and we encourage our city departments, and our local businesses and organizations to do the same.”
