The Santa Monica Pier will host “School’s Out!” Saturday, June 20th, a daylong celebration of entertainment and interactive programs geared towards children and families.
The School’s Out! event scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. is one of a series of events leading up to the Pier’s grand Centennial Celebration on September 9th. The first official day of summer vacation for many area students, School’s Out! is intended to commemorate the Pier’s 100 years as a source of fun and entertainment for children and families from across California and beyond.
The celebration will include a variety of activities and shows for families and kids of all ages including a Cirque du Soleil “Circus Play Area”; a performance by the hip-hop dance group and winners of NBC’s Superstars of Dance “Groovaloos;” Kids On Stage, a theater, video and performing arts program for kids and young adults; and Movies by Kids, a creative program designed for teaching young students the process of movie making and animation.
“There is no better way to ring in the summer than with a celebration that pays tribute to the pier as a staple of summertime fun for kids of all ages,” said Ben Franz-Knight, executive director of the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation.
“The Santa Monica Pier has a tradition of creating long-lasting memories and it is an unforgettable part of the lives of anyone that ever had the chance to visit the pier during the summer. We look forward to playing a role in creating new memories among today’s kids, just as the pier did for generations before.”
