The romantic comedy Sleeping Ugly will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays, beginning April 15 through June 17 at the Santa Monica Playhouse, 1211 Fourth St.

Written by two-time Academy Award nominated screenwriter Arnold Schulman, Sleeping Ugly is described as an adult fairytale about love and lust, longing and belonging, sex and sensibility, parents and pediatrics, and the passion and pain of living with a werewolf.

Schulman was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Love with the Proper Stranger” in 1963 and for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Goodbye, Columbus” in 1969.

The show is directed by Chris DeCarlo, who has been acting, writing and directing in Los Angeles for more than 40 years.

Lighting and set design is by James Cooper, with costume design by Ashley Hayes and sound design by Linn Yamaha Hirschman.

Tickets are $25 for general admission, $21.50 for students, teachers, seniors and members of the military, and $17.50 for groups of 10 or more.
