Santa Monica police have arrested a valet attendant who allegedly stabbed a co-worker at an apartment complex where they worked February 22nd.
Police were called at 9:55 p.m. to the Sea Castle Apartments, 1725 Ocean Front Walk, Santa Monica, where two valet attendants were involved in a fight over a domestic issue in the complex’s subterranean garage, Sgt. Jay Trisler said.
When police arrived they found one of the attendants with numerous stab wounds. The victim, a 36-year-old Cudahy resident, was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.
The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival but his vehicle was located on the Santa Monica Freeway near the Harbor Freeway, where he was arrested, Trisler said. The suspect, identified as Yamil Mejia, 38, of Bell, was booked for attempted murder and his bail was set at $1 million, Trisler said.
Trisler said the two co-workers had been involved in a dispute regarding a relationship but noted that motive for the stabbing is under investigation.
