sexual assault of woman in vehicle

Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in his car at a parking garage.

The woman was traveling on foot to downtown Santa Monica at about 6:45 a.m. Sept. 19 when she accepted a ride from the suspect near Santa Monica High School at Lincoln Boulevard and Michigan Avenue, police said.

The suspect drove the woman into the downtown area and pulled into Public Parking Structure No. 2, 1235 Second St., where he allegedly displayed a handgun and sexually assaulted the victim, police said.

The man then fled the parking structure northbound in the alley towards Wilshire Boulevard and turned west on Wilshire.

The suspect is described only as a Hispanic man, approximately 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a heavy build, police said. His vehicle is described as a late model grey Saturn Vue SUV, or similar vehicle with a roof rack.
