Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s help in locating a couple wanted in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of five guests at the Seaview Motel in April.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. April 21 at 1760 Ocean Ave., where police were called regarding a disturbance in one of the rooms and saw several suspects fleeing the location on foot, Sgt. Richard Lewis said. Four of the suspects were taken into custody and four handguns were recovered, but as many as four suspects were able to flee the crime scene, Lewis said.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives were able to identify two of the outstanding suspects, Sergio Raul Gutierrez, 26, of Oxnard, and Melissa Lizeth Castillo Gomez, 23, of Los Angeles, police said.
Gutierrez is described as a Hispanic man, 5-foot-8, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, while Castillo Gomez is described as a Hispanic woman, 5-foot-7, weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, police said.
Gutierrez and Gomez are boyfriend and girlfriend and may be living in the Los Angeles area, Lewis said. Warrants have been issued for their arrest and their bail has been set at $2.35 million.
