In preparation for the city’s single-use plastic bag ban taking effect Sept. 1, the Santa Monica Public Library will provide free reusable bags to library patrons.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 29, the Santa Monica Public Library will offer one reusable bag per person when checking out a book, magazine, DVD, audiobook, or CD, while supplies last.

The city’s single-use carryout bag ordinance prohibits all retail establishments in Santa Monica from providing single-use bags to customers at the point of sale, and prohibits the free distribution of paper carryout bags by grocery stores, convenience stores, mini-marts, liquor stores and pharmacies.
