The American Red Cross Santa Monica chapter’s annual “Red Tie Affair” fundraiser gala scheduled Saturday, March 28th at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, 101 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica will salute the medical profession and emergency medicine.
The gala will include dinner, music, live and silent auctions and entertainment. Awards will be presented recognizing local community members for their volunteerism and extraordinary service to the community.
Award winning KTTV Fox 11 News anchor Christine Devine is the master of ceremonies for the event. Among the items up for bid are designer watches, exotic vacations, limited edition wines, art, sports and Hollywood memorabilia, designer dresses and jewelry.
The Red Tie Affair gala honors the “humanitarian spirit of those who have shown courage, exhibited unselfish character and whose work has saved lives and/or improved the human spirit,” according to the Red Cross.
This year’s honorees include the cast and crew of the television show, “The Doctors.” Jay McGraw, the show’s executive producer, will accept the chapter’s coveted Spirit Award for the show’s contribution to the understanding of medicine and health issues.
The Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism Award will be presented by Santa Monica City Councilman Bobby Shriver to Russ Kino, MD, FACEP, FACEM; chief executive officer of St. John’s Emergency Specialists; medical director, Emergency Services St. John’s Health Center.
The award was named after Santa Monica Red Cross volunteer and Santa Monica police officer Ricardo A. Crocker, who was killed while fighting as a U.S. Marine reservist in the Iraq War in 2005.
Other 2009 Spirit Award recipients are the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, Nethercutt Emergency Center and Saint John’s Health Center Emergency Department.
