A stretch of Olympic Drive in Santa Monica was closed for several hours April 9 after some hydraulic fluid apparently spilled from a truck onto the roadway, fire officials said.
Santa Monica Fire Department firefighters were called at 8:46 a.m. regarding a reported hazardous materials spill on Olympic Drive from Main to Fourth streets in Santa Monica.
Firefighters initially determined the liquid to be hydraulic fluid, and additional units were called to assist in the mitigation of the incident, Capt. Jason Wells said. No injuries were reported. The area was closed to vehicular traffic as crews removed the fluid and cleaned the street.
Santa Monica police were able to locate and stop the truck that allegedly spilled the fluid nearby. The vehicle came from a construction site across from Santa Monica City Hall and is a contracted company by the city, Wells said.
Santa Monica Public Works provided street sweepers, pressure washers and personnel to assist in the clean-up. Officials said it did not appear that any of the fluid reached the storm drains.
