The city of Santa Monica, along with its consultant PMC, recently received the Outstanding Achievement in Web Development award for the city’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment Web site,

The award, presented by the Web Marketing Association, acknowledges talented and outstanding Web site development and recognizes the city, PMC and other winners as being among the industry’s best designers.

“The new site is packed with great information on the city’s sustainability programs, community events and much more,” said Andrew Basmajian, environmental outreach coordinator for the Office of Sustainability and the Environment. “The constant challenge is to present a large amount of information in both an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly way for all users, including policy makers. We’re honored to have won an award for the effort.”

Office representatives said the newly redesigned site was given a modern look and feel and acts as an environmental resource for residents, businesses, tourists and government. It includes a city services directory that slides up from the bottom of the screen to reveal frequently asked questions and a directory of city contacts by department, by item or alphabetically. The site is user-friendly and well organized, featuring both the sustainable resources that the city has to offer and an educational component for the community, according to the office.

PMC, the consulting firm hired to redesign the Web site, was also recognized by the Web Marketing Association.

The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and development of the best sites on the World Wide Web.
