Transportation specialist Joseph Schwieterman will give a free talk on “Trains, Planes and Automobiles: Perspectives on Santa Monica’s Rich Transportation History.” The talk is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, February 2nd, at the Santa Monica Public Library, Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica.

Schwieterman, a professor at DePaul University in Chicago, will offer a look at the changing transportation scene, the Pacific Electric Railway, Santa Monica Airport and other highlights in transportation in the city.

Schwieterman is a nationally-known transportation expert and the author of When the Railroad Leaves Town: American Communities in the Age of Rail Line Abandonment, which has a chapter on Santa Monica, according to a library spokesman.

Following the program the book will be available for purchase and the author will sign copies.
