Dr. Curtis Hunter has been appointed director of cardiovascular surgery at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.

Hunter will also be a faculty member of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In these roles, he will be treating patients at both the Santa Monica facility and the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

Hunter specializes in treating patients with acquired heart disease. He performs nearly all types of heart surgery, including coronary bypasses, and has a special interest in minimally invasive approaches to heart valve repairs and replacements, aortic aneurysm repairs and irregular heartbeat surgery, according to the UCLA Medical Center.

Hunter received his medical degree from the University of Utah’s School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He completed his thoracic surgery training at Boston University Medical Center and remained there as a staff physician and faculty member for four years before joining UCLA.
