In the third fatality involving a vehicle in Santa Monica this month, a 30-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run collision on Wilshire Boulevard early July 16, police said.

Claire Rose, a Santa Monica resident, was walking northbound on 21st Street in the east crosswalk at 12:16 a.m., when witnesses say, she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Wilshire, Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

Following the collision, the driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop to render aid and continued westbound on Wilshire to northbound 15th Street, then eastbound on California Avenue and out of sight, Lewis said.

Rose was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, Lewis said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a charcoal grey or black Toyota or similar type sedan, which likely has damage to the front grill, hood and driver side headlight area, police said. No description of the driver is available at this time.

Investigators from the Santa Monica Police Department’s Major Accident Response Team responded and assumed the investigation, which is continuing.
