“ICE at Santa Monica,” the city’s outdoor ice rink, has returned to downtown for the third season.
The 8,000-square-foot ice rink at Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue in Santa Monica opened to the public Tuesday, October 27th and will be available for use through January 31st.
In celebration of the opening, a team of artists from Blue Sky Studios and 14 skilled sculptors from ICE Bulb LLC created an ice sculpture of the character “Scrat” from the movie “Ice Age 3.”
World figure skating champion, Randy Gardner, and members of California Gold, a synchronizing team, also performed to the “Walk the Dinosaur” song featured in the film.
ICE at Santa Monica will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 and includes rental skates.
The rink is periodically cleared for short periods to groom the ice. If raining, the rink will remain open in light rain or drizzle conditions, closing only for heavy downpours.
