The Santa Monica Sister City Association has scheduled a kick-off reception Sunday, March 1st to announce the International Youth Soccer Tournament and its scholarship support campaign for soccer players who cannot afford to stay at the UCLA Olympic Village for the tournament.
The reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Santa Monica Family YMCA Community Room, 1332 Sixth St., Santa Monica.
The tournament, which is scheduled July 28th through 31st at Santa Monica College, will bring together teams from Santa Monica’s sister cities in Mexico, Germany, Japan and Italy, and is intended to provide opportunities for youths to exchange friendship through soccer games.
Under the leadership of SMC President Chui Tsang, who is chairing the Tournament Organizing Committee, and Sister City Association President Joseph E. Deering, the tournament will invite youth teams from sister cities including, Fujinomiya, Japan; Mazatlan, Mexico; Hamm, Germany; and Sant’Elia Fiumerapido, Italy to compete with local Santa Monica teams.
