The South Bay Yacht Racing Club (SBYRC) will hold a clinic concerning skills boaters need at the starts of racing events.

The landside portion of the clinic is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 18th, at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club (PMYC), 13915 Panay Way, Marina del Rey.

Techniques and tactics at the start are often the keys to success at the finish line. These will be the first topics discussed in the classroom session.

Art Engel will cover the racing rules that apply during the start sequence in this session.

The on-the-water portion of the clinic will begin after noon and include training around the Association of Santa Monica Bay Yacht Club (ASMBYC) marks.

The afternoon session will be highlighted by videotaping of the starting drills.

There will be coaches assigned to boats that register early and request a coach.

To finish the day, a recap is planned at PMYC, including review of the videos, with various speakers and coaches providing the commentary.

Early registration is required so that event planners can have a coach available for participants.

The clinic cost is $10, payable to SBYRC, P. O. Box 10967, Marina del Rey 90295, for boats registered by Friday, June 10th, and $15 after June 10th.

Registrations may also be placed in the SBYRC drop box at California Sailing Academy, on the second floor, east end of the building, at 14025 Panay Way, Marina del Rey.
