A scholarship fund has been established in honor of the late David C. Mandell, founder and first executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the club.

The “In His Footsteps” Scholarship Fund was established by David Mandell’s widow Faye Mandell and his daughter Arielle Mandell, as well as some friends.

As founder and executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Mandell worked tirelessly for 27 years and was committed to community youths and their families, club officials said. Mandell was determined to have his vision for a safe haven in which all cultures and ethnicities could come to learn and share become a reality.

In this spirit, the “In His Footsteps” scholarship will be awarded to a local high school senior who demonstrates effort, determination and a commitment towards working and partnering with other cultures for positive goals, according to the club.

Scholarship applications will be available beginning Monday, January 5th. The applications will be distributed through the Boys & Girls Club of Venice to local high schools, including Venice High School, Culver City High School and Westchester High School. Applications are also online at www.bgcv.org/.

Contributions to the scholarship fund are welcomed.
