The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) board of education is accepting applications to fill a final vacancy on the district’s Financial Oversight Advisory Committee.

The application deadline has been extended until Friday, December 15th, to allow for additional applicants. Parents and community members may apply.

The Financial Oversight Committee was originally formed in answer to the community’s desire for increased communication and understanding of the district’s financial operations and a need to generate additional revenue for the district.

Among criteria for selections, applicants should:

– have broad perspective;

– have financial and/or management and/or legal expertise/experience;

– reside, be employed or work within the geographic boundaries of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District;

– have business process orientation;

– communicate clearly information resulting from the committee’s work; and

– not be currently serving as an elected official.

All attempts will be made to have the composition of the committee reflective of the student population.

The Financial Oversight Committee meets regularly in the evening, once a month, in the District’s Testing Room, 1651 16th St., Second Floor, in Santa Monica.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, December 15th, in the superintendent’s office at district headquarters, 1651 16th St., Second Floor, Santa Monica.

In January 2007, appointments will be made by the board of education.
