The Kentwood Players theater group will present Scott Martin’s musical comedy Scream Queens, beginning Friday, Sept. 14 through Oct. 20 at the Westchester Playhouse.
Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the playhouse, 8301 Hindry Ave., Westchester.
Scream Queens is the story of six B-movie actresses who are visiting Cleveland, OH for a horror movie convention called the International GlamaGore ScreamiCon. Each with her own personality, the women make up the Scream Queens and each sings, acts and dances for the fans of the convention during this 90-minute interactive musical taking the audience on a journey of what it’s like to be cult sex-symbol celebrities.
Azeen Kazemi, Amanda Majkrzak, Alison Mattiza, Victoria Miller, Jennifer Richardson and Susan Goldman Weisbarth are featured in the cast.
During the show, the actresses read and respond to several fan letters from the audience, direct an improvisational question and answer session, present a “Lifetime Achievement Award” and involve the crowd in a screaming contest.
The group also has prepared demo reels throughout the show of their most notorious no-budget creature features with scripts and special effects.
“This show is special because there is audience interaction with the cast,” said Shari Barrett, director of publicity for the Kentwood Players. “The actresses treat the audience as if they are the actual audience portrayed in the show and it makes for a very fun environment that is suitable for all ages.”
The show is directed by Martin and produced by Susan Goldman Weisbarth by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
After the show’s run, Kentwood Players will also sponsor and promote the Scream Queen Contest, which will be housed at the fourth annual Halloween Town Fair. This event will take place Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in the Paradise Building Parking Lot at 9100 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Westchester.
Scream Queens tickets are $23 for general admission, with a $2 discount for students, seniors and servicemen.
