Open Neighborhoods and PermaCity are teaming up to sponsor an event where climate change will be the topic of discussion and solutions will be offered.
“Mar Vista Climate Reality” will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at the Mar Vista Library, 12006 Venice Blvd., Mar Vista.
Los Angeles Unified School District secondary school science advisor John Zavalney will share the latest climate science with a discussion highlighting the growing incidence of extreme weather events and their connection to increased greenhouse gas pollution in the atmosphere.
The event will include a screening of FUEL, a fast-paced 35-minute look into a clean energy future and winner of the Sundance Audience Award.
Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee Co-Chair Sherri Akers will highlight the neighborhood’s green initiatives and what individuals and communities can do to move toward more sustainable neighborhoods.
In 2009, Mar Vista became the first neighborhood in Los Angeles to adopt a goal of 100 percent clean electricity.
