“Build it and they will come,” from the movie Field of Dreams, was on my mind when I was organizing this year’s boat parade.

If you are you unable to attend the Saturday evening parade, our new two-day format that includes a Friday evening parade will give you another opportunity to see the “Sights and Sounds of the Holidays.”

My favorite part of organizing this year’s Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade was meeting so many wonderful people who were willing to help make this year’s boat parade the biggest and best yet.

Most important, we would not have a boat parade at all if it were not for our sponsors. A very big thank-you to all of you for your generosity: Admiral Sponsor, The Argonaut; Commodore Sponsors, Michele Blackmon Estates, Playa Vista and U.S. Bank; and Captain Sponsors, C&O Cucina, C&O Trattoria, Downey Savings, FantaSea Yachts & Yacht Club, First Coastal Bank, Hornblower Cruises & Events, Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors, Los Angeles World Airports, Marina City Club, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, The Parking Spot, and Wells Fargo Bank.

Also, a thank-you goes out to the many individuals and businesses that were kind enough to donate prizes. However, since we have so many donations this year, I could not possibly list them all in this greetingŠ but know that they are greatly appreciated.

Thank-you to the following for their contributions: C.W. Business Center, Del Rey Yacht Club, Jamaica Bay Inn and Beachside Cafe, Mare Co. Sails, Marina del Rey Hotel, Marina del Rey Marriott, Marina International, Marina Peninsula Neighborhood Association, Marina Venice Yacht Club, Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey, Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, Sievers/Burnett Press, Today’s Way, Westchester/LAX-Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce,

To Bill Sharman, what an honor it is to have you as our grand marshal this year. And a special thanks to Dirk Van Schoonhoven for again supplying the grand marshal yacht. We are also looking forward to seeing the Laker Girls on the grand marshal boat.

Burton Chace Park announcers Lisa Osborn and Mickey Laszlo, we thank you and look forward to your colorful parade commentaries.

A very special thanks goes out to a group of people who spent many hours planning this event: our executive boat parade committee – Lowell Safier, vice president; Judith Ciancimino, secretary; and Riley Walters, CPA, treasurer; and members of the board of directors Diane Barretti, Eileen Fend, Michael McMillan, Lisa Osborn, Bob Singer, Debbie Talbot, Debbie Thomson, Diane Weissburg, and Lucas Willemse.

And thanks to our advisors – Frank Gleberman, Willie Hjorth, Dr. Ernie Nankas and Greg Wenger; and our many volunteers – Juana Alfaro, Chuck Daugherty, Denise Duncan, Harold Dunnigan, Mia Falkenstein, Susan Foltz, Alie Gaffan, Gwen Gerety, Michael Hoffs, Dolly Jacinto, John Johnson, Julie Kirst, Don Mantarro, Bill O’Hara, Patti Patrick, Regina Risolio, Joyce Rodin, Michael Selig, Janice Solis, Joe Spereno, Robert Weinstein, Denyce White, Brandon Williams, Vickie Williams.

Wishing you and your family a very special holiday season. See you at the Holiday Boat Parade!

Cindy Williams, President
