[Editor’s note: State Senator Jenny Oropeza’s district includes much of the coastal areas from Venice to Long Beach and she is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.]

Assembly Bill 2321 must include funding to extend Metro’s Green Line two miles to Los Angeles International Airport. For weeks, I have been pushing to include money for the Green Line extension to be part of this measure. There is no doubt this should be one of the highest priorities in Los Angeles County. This project would impact travelers and their families throughout the region.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am fighting to ensure the Green Line gets funding. At present, there is no money for this project.

Some argue there’s not enough time to make adjustments and still get the half-cent sales tax on the November ballot. I have been assured by [Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder] Dean Logan that there is time.

Because this bill sets up the mass-transit plan for the next 30 years, we have to get it right the first time. To delay action for a week to make sure we nail it is worth the wait.
