Louise Reichlin & Dancers, a performing company of the Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, will present a series of performances in Baggage Friday through Sunday, May 20 through 22 at the Miles Memorial Playhouse.
Dances include “Mourning Light,” “Tap Dance Widows Club,” “Remembrance,” “The Kiss,” and a revival of the 1981 theatre piece “Woman Sleeping.” Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. May 20 and 21, and 4 p.m. May 21 and May 22 at Miles Memorial Playhouse, 1130 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica.
All performances include a dialogue with the audience as the new work develops. Louise Reichlin is the director/choreographer for Baggage, while Audri Phillips is the visual artist.
Dancers include Zsolt Banki, Jen Hunter, Brittany Midiri, Steven Nielsen, Sarah Nordquist, Angelina Prendergast, Anne-Marie Talmadge, Angela Todaro, and guest dancer, Msaada Nia. Anet Ris-Kelman is a guest artist.
Reichlin said she was inspired to create this piece after the passing of her husband and partner of 39 years, Alfred Desio, four years ago. Reichlin says she believes her husband’s support and spirit has remained with her even though he is no longer physically with her.
“While no two people grieve identically, one commonality of grief is the baggage we carry with us after losing a loved one. This piece focuses on the positive baggage of continuing life after the loss of a loved one while still feeling their presence and influence,” Reichlin says.
Louise Reichlin & Dancers was founded in 1979, using the nonprofit base of Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers. The company tours many schools and is a founding member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Arts Community Partnership Network, Reichlin said.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $13 for students and seniors.
