Playa Vista has kicked off its annual summer event series, featuring an expanded schedule of live performances and movie screenings.

The Campus Central Park Bandshell, which opened last year, will play an integral role in the summer line-up that includes the popular Concerts in the Park series as well as Movies in the Moonlight and Shakespeare by the Sea, Playa Vista officials said.

All Playa Vista sponsored summer events are free of charge and open to the public.

“Our annual concert series has been a huge hit with the community since it began in 2003, and we are thrilled to provide an exciting variety of new entertainment options starting in June,” said Patti Sinclair, co-president of Playa Vista. “We encourage all residents, Campus office workers and our neighbors to come out to Playa Vista to enjoy the great bands, movies and performances we have lined up for the summer.”

The Concerts in the Park began June 9 and will continue through the end of August, with a variety of acts hosted at the Central Park Bandshell. The concerts are held on alternate Thursday afternoons throughout the summer, with a lineup of local bands including Kimera, California Cowboy Band and Charie Vaughn & the Daily Routine.

On select Sunday evenings, visitors can gather in Concert Park or at the Central Park Bandshell, where the summer lineup includes Eagles tribute band Hotel California, Platinum Rockstars, and the Moonwalker Tribute to Michael Jackson.

Movies in the Moonlight will be held on various Friday nights throughout the summer, when Playa Vista will be screening recent hits including “The Social Network” and “True Grit,” old favorites like “E.T.” and “Back to the Future,” and family films including “Toy Story 3” and “How to Train Your Dragon” on projection screens in Concert Park or the Central Park Bandshell.

The Shakespeare by the Sea event is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, with a performance of William Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing.”

A Playa Vista shuttle service will provide transportation from the Shops at Concert Park to the events at the Campus Central Park Bandshell throughout the summer.
