A 28-year-old man was killed and another was wounded after they were shot in a car near a Los Angeles International Airport area hotel April 16, police said.
A woman who was also in the car at the time was not injured.
Brian Pierre Johnson of Inglewood was sitting in a parked car with a family member and a female friend at about 12:30 p.m. near the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel at 96th Street and Airport Boulevard when a suspect approached them in a vehicle, police said.
The suspect, described as an African-American man in his 20s, allegedly shot Johnson, also striking his relative before driving away from the scene, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
Officers who were called to the scene found Johnson unresponsive inside the car, and his relative, who was conscious, was also suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead and the second victim was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said it is unknown if the shooting was gang related and detectives have not determined what prompted the shooting.
