The 2007 Singles Paddle Tennis Championships are scheduled Saturday and Sunday, September 29th and 30th, at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice.

The competition will include eight divisions for players to select from — men’s open, A and B; women’s open, B and C; masters (ages 35 and older); and youth (ages 15 and younger).

Each grouping may be limited to a maximum of 16 participants with a minimum of six competitors needed for a division to be contested.

The double-elimination tournament will be conducted under United States Paddle Tennis Association rules.

Trophies will be given to the top two finishers in each division and players will receive a tournament T-shirt and refreshments while supplies last.

Players use solid paddles made of wood or graphite and a regulation tennis ball that is punctured to reduce the air pressure, as well as the amount of bounce.

The court is smaller than but similar in proportion to a traditional tennis court, and the style of play and scoring is much like but not identical to the tennis game that is played at the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 29th, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 30th.
