A water main bursting underground on northbound Sepulveda Boulevard 80 feet south of Century Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) created a sinkhole at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 16th, according to Officer Ezequiel Barraza of the Los Angeles Airport Police.

The 36-inch water main burst and continued running for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power responded promptly to shut off the main valve, said Barraza.

Northbound traffic lanes on Sepulveda Boulevard just past Century Boulevard were closed until the repairs to the pipe and the street are completed.

The California Highway Patrol is allowing people to exit Sepulveda Boulevard from the westbound Century (1-105) Freeway to gain access to LAX, according to officials.
