Six students from various high schools in Santa Monica were awarded scholarships last week by the Santa Monica Kiwanis Club.

The scholarships are given to students who show leadership and commitment to community service. Four scholarships honor current and past Kiwanis Club members and two scholarships are for students who have overcome adversity and advance to college.

The recipients are:

– Rudee Bagsby, St. Monica High School, Alice Carriere Scholarship;

– Sahoua Gboizo, Santa Monica High School, Ray Carriere Scholarship;

– Marlene Gobrial, Santa Monica High School, Robert Ziebarth Memorial Scholarship;

– Ruth Legesse, New Roads High School, Kiwanis Achievement Scholarship;

– Matthew Redfern, Santa Monica High School, Leo Collins Memorial Scholarship; and

– Imelda Ruelas, Olympic High School, Kiwanis Achievement Scholarship.
