A Santa Monica man has been charged with attempted kidnapping after he allegedly tried to pull a young girl into his vehicle in a parking lot at Pico Boulevard and Stewart Street in Santa Monica Friday, October 14th.

The Los Angeles County district attorney charged 63-year-old Fredrick David Trotter Tuesday, October 18th, with one count of attempted kidnapping and one count of child annoying with a prior conviction, police said.

Santa Monica police received a call at 5:30 p.m. October 14th regarding the alleged attempted kidnapping incident at the parking lot.

Trotter had allegedly grabbed the arm of a female juvenile and attempted to force her into his vehicle, police said.

Two witnesses intervened and the girl was able to escape. She was not injured during the incident and was taken home.

The victim told officers that she and her mother knew the suspect.

Police said they identified the suspect as Trotter and arrested him at about 3 a.m. Saturday, October 15th, when he came out of his apartment.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and allegedly recovered additional evidence from the apartment.

Trotter was booked at the Santa Monica Jail and his bail was set at $1 million.
