In high school softball playoff games:

After capturing another Ocean League Championship with an undefeated league record, the Santa Monica High School Vikings picked up a 6-0 shutout victory over visiting California High School in the first round of the Southern Section Division III playoffs Friday, May 16th.

It was the fifth consecutive shutout win for the Vikings, who have scored 54 runs in their last five games.

Santa Monica (22-8) scored at least one run in each of the first four innings against California on the way to the first-round playoff victory.

Viking pitcher Celisha Walker finished with seven strikeouts and also added an RBI (run batted in) triple in the game. Catcher Emma Woo finished with two RBI, including a home run for Santa Monica, which tallied nine hits.

The St. Monica High School Mariners lost 2-0 to host Alverno High School of Sierra Madre in the second round of the Southern Section Division VI playoffs Friday, May 16th.

The loss came after the Mariners defeated Ramona Convent of Alhambra 3-1 in the playoff first round.

In the second-round game, fourth-seeded Alverno scored early with one run in the first and held the lead for good.

St. Monica, which finished third in the Camino Real League this year with a league record of 4-4, finished the season with an overall record of 11-12.

The Western League champion Westchester High School Comets were defeated 4-0 by host San Pedro High School in the third round of the Los Angeles City Section playoffs Tuesday, May 13th.

The Comets reached the third round after picking up victories over Bell High School (11-1) and Chatsworth (2-1).

In the game against San Pedro, the Pirates scored their first run in the third inning and held on to earn the shutout win. Westchester finished with two hits to five for San Pedro.

The Comets, who captured the league championship with a 12-1 league record this year, finished the season with an overall record of 19-8.
