The Lora Schlesinger Gallery in Santa Monica is presenting Noctilucent, an exhibition of new landscape paintings by Santa Monica artist Susan Holcomb.
The show will open with an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at the Lora Schlesinger Gallery at Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave., T3, Santa Monica.
This is Holcomb’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.
Her paintings use celestial objects, maps, grids, and symbols commonly used in astronomy and cartography in depicting landscape, seascape, and cityscapes contrasted with the night sky and the universe at large.
“Holcomb’s landscapes exist between dark and light worlds,” says a gallery spokesperson. “They explore a journey through a historical and metaphorical night landscape that pays tribute to the transcendent work and the relationship between man and the universe.”
Holcomb’s work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and is included in the National Museum of Women in the Arts for contemporary art in Miami.
The exhibition will be held through Aug. 28th. Gallery hours are 10 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
