A project has begun to replace view piers on the south jetty of Marina del Rey, the county Department of Beaches and Harbors announced.
The project, which started Sept. 10, will involve the demolition and rebuilding of two view piers that were constructed in 1983.
The structures are in an advanced stage of disrepair and as a result, have been closed to the public for over two years, a Beaches and Harbors spokesperson said.
The approximately 16- by 24-foot platforms, which extend over the shoreline and provide a scenic viewing venue for the public, will be replaced in-kind, the department spokesperson said. During construction, a public safety plan will be enforced, which includes closing down the south/middle jetty to the public with a temporary fence at the entrance.
The project is expected to take two months to complete, and once completed, the south jetty and view piers will be accessible to the public.
