A ìSpontaneous Art Show,î the final show at Sponto Gallery in Venice, will be presented as a tribute to Mark ìSpontoî Kornfeld, the late owner of the gallery, from 2 to 4:20 p.m. Monday, April 20th.
Artist Brett Woods and Seven Dudley Cinema are presenting the tribute art show honoring Sponto at the Sponto Gallery, 7 Dudley Ave., Venice. While it is the last official show at Sponto Gallery, the arts collective associated with Sponto plans to carry on.
Kornfeld, who often went by Sponto, a nickname he coined for himself by combining the words spontaneous and pronto, died in late December at age 59. He opened Sponto Gallery in 1984 at the former home of the Venice West CafÈ, a former hangout of Venice Beat poets in the 1950s and 1960s.
Tribute show organizers say the event will honor Sponto and the free spirit of creativity and reinvention in Venice.
The group art show is planned to include new works by artists Alberto, Attaway, Frank Lane, Doran Marold, Monroe Reeves, Woods, Gerry Fialka, Brian Milus, Herciuk, Diane Butler, Abraham Butler and Jolie.
