For the third consecutive year, students at St. Anastasia Catholic School in Playa del Rey have collected personal items and toiletries to send in gift boxes to United States soldiers serving overseas.

Each class was assigned either a male or a female soldier to sponsor for the project.

Teachers said the students donated items such as personal toiletries, magazines, microwave popcorn, socks and other comforts of home to help brighten the soldiers’ day.

The students convened in groups to organize and box up the donations, and over 40 boxes were shipped courtesy of the St. Anastasia Church parishioners.

In the tradition of generosity and charity, the students of St. Anastasia were able to show their appreciation to those who make great sacrifices for the country, teachers said.

St. Anastasia Catholic School and Church is at 8361 South Stanmoor Drive, Playa del Rey.
