The St. Bernard High School Viking Interact Club, Westchester Rotary Club, El Segundo Rotary Club and the Surfrider Foundation teamed up to clean Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey Saturday, February 10th. Under the direction of club moderator Matt Mallen, Green Thumb moderator Suzanne Mullane and development liaison/Westchester Rotary Club member Chuck Willig, the St. Bernard Interact Club hit the beach for a morning cleanup and community camaraderie, said a school spokeswoman.

Students and teachers, armed with trash bags and gloves, were assigned to clean up the roadside just above the beach.

“There was more trash on the side of the road and in the ice plants than anywhere else on the beach,” Willig said. “The kids did a great job climbing around and cleaning the fence line along the road.”

“It was fantastic to see the energy and the concern of the students participating in this community effort,” said St. Bernard High School spokeswoman Carolyn Quijano. “The students showed a lot of Viking pride and we are very proud of their efforts and dedication.”
