Former Leuzinger High School coach Reggie Morris has been appointed as the new head boys basketball coach at St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey.

Morris served as Leuzinger High boys basketball coach for eight seasons. The team captured the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division IA Championship this past season, when Morris was named CIF Southern Section Division 1A Coach of the Year.

During his time at Leuzinger Morris guided two players who entered the NBA as first-round picks, and several who went on to NCAA Division I schools.

“We are very excited for the future of SBHS basketball and the opportunity for Coach Morris to train and develop our young people into leaders and champions,” St. Bernard Principal Mike Alvarez said.

Morris will replace Mark Fancher, who has coached the Vikings the past two years. The team finished in last place in the Del Rey League this season with an 0-8 league record.

“We are excited about working with Mr. Morris,” Athletic Director Greg Dixon said. “Viking basketball has taken a great step forward with Reggie Morris stepping in as our leader.”

Morris will be an on-campus coach and work as a history and physical education teacher.
