State Senator Sheila Kuehl is one of the honorees who will receive an annual Communitas Award at the Church in Ocean Park in Santa Monica Saturday, October 6th.

The annual Communitas Awards, which will feature a sustainable auction of green items, will also honor Santa Monica planning commissioner Julie Lopez Dad, the Rev. Jim Conn and activist Susan McCorry.

Among the auction/raffle items are a detailed in-home energy assessment from Solar Santa Monica and its energy consulting firm, EcoMotion and a Carbon-Saver Ladies Vanilla Cruiser bike donated by Bicycle Ambulance.

The event will feature music, cocktails, dinner and the auction/ raffle, in addition to the awards ceremony.

Dinner is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and the program is at 7:30 p.m.

The event is the main fund-raiser of the year for the church’s programs and historic buildings.

Communitas, Latin for community, involves the honoring of people who “embody and elevate the spirit of community.”

The Church in Ocean Park is a progressive United Methodist Church at 235 Hill St. in Santa Monica. The event is open to the public and the church is wheelchair accessible.
