Former Playa Vista President Steve Soboroff returned to Playa Vista March 29 to a welcoming crowd of dignitaries and basketball stars during ceremonies where a park was named in his honor.
Los Angeles Clippers stars Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon joined the celebration of the opening of Playa Vista’s newest park, where Soboroff assisted Griffin on a slam-dunk, delighting the crowd.
“This court is going to be used for a lot of clinics, by the Clippers and the community,” Soboroff, who was instrumental in bringing the Clippers to the Campus at Playa Vista in 2005, told The Argonaut. “This is probably the finest public court in Los Angeles.
“The fact that it’s named after me is nice, and the fact that I’m still alive when they named it after me is nicer,” Soboroff quipped. “But coming back to Playa is a little emotional for me.”
The park, which is near the Clippers training city on Jefferson Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, includes two full-sized basketball courts, as well as a full-sized tennis court and “tot lot.”
