Steven John Holdridge, a 17-year-old Westchester resident and student at James J. McBride Special Education Center in Mar Vista, died November 28th at Loma Linda Medical Center.

Holdridge was the 121st infant heart transplant recipient at Loma Linda Medical Center, having received his new heart on December 19th, 1991 at 12 weeks of age.

After years of immunosuppressant medications, his heart went into rejection last summer. Holdridge battled very hard, but his body just shut down, his family said.

Holdridge’s friends and family marveled at how many times he “cheated death.” They thought he had one more miracle in his pocket, but said the Lord called him home.

Holdridge loved making friends with everyone, especially at Westchester sporting events and at his school, his family said.

He is survived by his parents Ellery and Renee Holdridge, brother Brandon and sister Sarah.

A memorial service celebrating Steven’s love of life is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20th, at Westchester Lutheran Church, 7831 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Westchester.
