Playa del Rey resident Megan Correnti, a student at Marymount High School, attended this year’s Congressional Student Leadership Conference in Medicine and Healthcare at San Diego State University in June.
The Congressional Student Leadership Conference is a college-accredited invitational leadership program sponsored by LeadAmerica that is for selected promising young leaders from throughout the United States and internationally.
Exceptional high school students with a record of academic achievement and extracurricular and community involvement are invited to participate in the program, conference organizers said.
Students experienced leadership in action and learned firsthand about the complexities of decision-making in the medical field by participating in the conference, organizers said.
The conference included multiple briefings, discussions with national and international leaders in the field of medicine and healthcare, hands-on patient care simulations and hands-on laboratory exercises.
“Participating in this conference was very rewarding,” said Correnti, who will enter her senior year at Marymount High this fall. “I gained a network of new friends from all over the United States, confirmed my desire to study medicine in college and acquired a greater appreciation and understanding of the numerous educational opportunities available to me in this field of study.”
